Guitar Heroes III: Legends of Rock
Developer: Neversoft
Publisher: Red Octane/Activision
Website: Website for the Game

Variety, they say is the spice of life. And nowhere is that maxim more appropriate in the life of a videogaming enthusiast. Throughout the course of my videogaming life I have conquered worlds, saved the universe at least 50 times, won the race of my life many times over, killed, investigated and even taken mushrooms. In short, I have done nearly everything. But now I can satisfy the inner rock star in me and play my 'favourite' songs and get marked according to my ability.

The concept of this game is as simple as it comes. Songs play and you press the buttons as they appear to keep the score going and to finish the fight, I mean, the song. This simple premise has become a phenomenon that has made Guitar Hero become an industry all by itself. Nobody please ask me why anybody would spend about 6 hours per song (on hard), rather than actually learning a real guitar. All I can say, virtual can be just as addictive, fun and rewarding as real. And fun it is. If you've played Boom Boom Rocket on XBLA, you'll know what to expect, but Guitar Heroes III is infinitely more fun. And depending on your musical tastes, you might even enjoy jamming along. Personally, I'll wait until they have a Bob Marley or Oasis edition before I invest, but don't let that put you off. If you're a certain age, you should know all the songs. Even if you just like rock, and are (relatively) young, there is more than enough to keep you amused here.

It's a hefty price forthe full set, which includes the game and a guitar designed by somebody of note. Sorry, I don't know who it is. But, you get to jam along to a number of classics and not so classics. And it is fun. I personally can only cope with stuff on the easy difficulty, if the demo is anything to go by. And by all accounts, playing on the hardest setting is more difficult than giving birth. Without an epidural. Without a midwife. And then cutting your own umbilical cord. It is a challenge and make no mistake.

So, take it easy. Enjoy the game and if you can get the ful sets of achievements out of this, you can truly say that you are a gamer with a varied diet. I know that I only stick to wat I can do and what I am good at.

Also, if I was to try and farm this game for achievement points, I am afraid this is all that would happen.
